Bringing It Back To The People – April 2016

Thank you to community members that have been attending some of the legislative hearings and coming all the way to the Capitol to testify! Next month I will be sending out a legislative wrap of bills that passed and failed.

On April 9th, we held a community meeting regarding the Māʻili contamination and clean up.  Please contact my office for copies of the power point presentation as presented by the U.S. Coast Guard with the details and timeline of the PCB removal.

UHWO Academy for Creative Media internship students spent this past semester creating the new Kapolei Commons Regal theater trailer which debuted at the Grand Opening on April 20th.  It was so exciting to see them include live clips from our Nānākuli Food Giant Mural project! The Kobayashi and McNoughton group who designed and constructed Kapolei Commons donated the first three days of revenue from $3 movies to the Boys and Girls Club, Make a Wish Foundation and UHWO Academy for Creative Media.

Note video caption: Chris Lee, Academy for Creative Media system director, was approached by the McNaughton Group and Regal Theater’s marketing company to see if any of the Creative Media students were interested in this project. An internship class was slated for Spring 2016, so those student interns got together during the Winter Break to come up with a pitch. The UHWO ACM interns pitched their idea to the McNaughton Group and Regal for the community trailer project in early January 2016. The group approved and the students spent this past semester composing, shooting, producing, directing and editing to meet the Kapolei Regal Theater grand opening in April.
