Fire truck
rides and free photos with Santa highlight "Santa Saturday" fun at Kapolei Shopping Center, Dec.13
Sleigh bells won't be ringing, but
fire truck bells will be clanging as Kapolei
Shopping Center rings in
holiday fun at its 16th annual SANTA
SATURDAY on December 13, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
FREE rides on an antique
fire truck are just part of the fun that day. Keiki will enjoy FREE holiday crafts and activities along "Candy Cane "Lane" and can
greet Santa's favorite reindeer, Rudolph. There will be FREE photos with Santa at Bank of Hawaii, and First Hawaiian Bank
gives those 18 years or older a chance to snatch some extra Christmas cash in
its popular Money Grabber. There
also will be prize drawings for two Kapolei Shopping Center gift baskets, each
filled with $500 worth of gift certificates and goodies from the center's
merchants and restaurants (must be 18 or older to enter). Merchants will offer sidewalk sale bargains for holiday shoppers, too.
In
the spirit of giving, Kapolei
High School's Leo Club volunteers
will gladly accept cash and canned foods donations for Hawaii Foodbank during
the event, with free poinsettia plants
for the first 200 Foodbank donors. It's Kapolei
Shopping Center's way to thank you for
helping feed Hawaii's
hungry this holiday season!

A Vote on Transit in November—and Later? |
|

Written by Frank Genadio

In August
the City Council passed Resolution 08-166 for a public vote on transit in
November. The wording is quite specific
but may leave the public uncertain as to precisely what its ramifications will
be, whether passed or failed. The ballot
question reads "Shall the powers, duties, and functions of the city, through
its director of transportation services, include establishment of a steel wheel
on steel rail transit system." Under the
resolution's provisions, the question will only be placed on the ballot if the
petition by the group known as "Stop Rail Now" (SRN) does not receive a
favorable court ruling and its question does not make the November ballot. If enough petition signatures are validated,
the petition takes precedence for its question, which reads "Honolulu mass transit shall not include
trains or rail." The wording of both
questions needs to be carefully interpreted if the reader is to make an
informed vote.

For
the second year in a row, The American Youth Soccer Organization's Leeward
Region 269 and The City and County
of Honolulu will be
co-coordinating the Sunset in the Park Event in Kapolei. The event, the 2008
Kapolei Summer Sunset Festival, will be held Saturday and Sunday, September 6th
and 7th, from 10 a.m.
to 10 p.m., at Kapolei Regional Park
across from the Kapolei Library. Since the scope of this year's event will be
