Forty-Five Students Advance to Compete at State Event Promoting science exploration and inquiry-based instruction, Island Pacific Academy (IPA) has announced the winners of its Third Annual Middle School Science Fair. Forty-five students have advanced to compete in 11 different categories at the Hawaii Association of Independent Schools¹ Science Fair on February 9 and 10, 2010. “We’re so proud of all our students and the ingenuity they demonstrated in each of their projects”, said Dr. Dan White, headmaster at IPA. “Their creativity continues to grow, which only serves to enhance the event year after year.” The environment and sustainability were among the popular topics of science research, which included projects titled Solar Energy, Heat and Color and Farms of the Future: Hydroponics Versus Soil. Other categories ranged from Animal and Plant sciences to Energy and Transportation. One mathematics project, titled Video Game Addiction: Does Age Matter?, took on a favorite teen topic. Others, such as Saving Energy and Money, had a more practical bent.
