Former University of Hawai’i head football coach June Jones is returning to the sidelines in the 50th state as offensive coordinator at Kapolei High School.
Hurricanes head coach Darren Hernandez announced the move Saturday night while calling the OC16 telecast of the JPS Paradise Classic.
Jones, who last held an official coaching role in 2014 as the head man at SMU, will take over for Galu Tagovailoa.
Jones had helped out at local schools in a consultant role in 2015, most notably at Saint Louis with Tagovailoa’s eldest son, Tua.
Jones will get the keys to a Hurricane offense that features Tagovailoa’s younger son Taulia, a highly regarded freshman quarterback who threw for 2,784 yards and 22 touchdowns in 2015.
