Officials: Brush Fires in Makakilo Area Seem Intentionally Set

MAKAKILO, OAHU, 19 Jun 2016

Firefighters responded to multiple brush fires that broke out next to the H-1 Freeway in Makakilo area Sunday afternoon.  Crews got to the scene shortly after 4 p.m. and the fire was under control within half an hour, before being fully extinguished by 5:30 p.m.

Westbound right lane on the Farrington Highway at Laaloa Street in Honokai Hale were shut down, but has since been reopened.

Fire officials said they believe the fires were set intentionally. There were three lots of land on fire, each about 100 to 200 feet apart. The largest fire burned an area approximately 200 feet by 100 feet.

Officials said three engines, three tankers and a battalion chief were on the scene.
